College Basketball Needs to go to a BCS System

I know the headline of this post will probably just generate some laughter & anger from the masses.

But seriously, can you sit here the day after that National Championship game & tell me the 68-team tournament produced the 2 best possible teams for a National Finals? Every one of the other 66 teams in the tourney could have beaten Butler last night.

I've been saying it since the Elite Eight...is it really too much to ask that the best 4 teams in the country play each other in the Final Four? I realize everyone on this planet hates the BCS, but at least there's never a question about the Title game in football having at least 2 of the top few teams in it. It might not be the decisive #1 vs #2, but at worst, we see 2 team from the consensus top 5 in there.

Here's what else I know: Kansas, Ohio St, Duke, Florida, San Diego St, BYU, hell, even Boston U would have done better than 18% shooting against UCONN. And by the way, how the fuck does a team competing for the title make exactly 3 total shots from inside 3-point range? I promise, you put me & that unathletic bastard Friedchips on the court against UCONN & we score more than 3 baskets from close range. Guaranteed.

So thanks for the memorable back-to-back title runs, Butler, but we'll all remember you as that shitty #8 seed that decided not to show up to the most important game in the school's history.

I'm still trying to figure out if I even watched a basketball game last night. It actually felt like I was watching 20 "athletes" repeatedly take hot, steamy dumps on a basketball court for the better part of 3 hours. (Don't think you're getting off the hook, UCONN. Despite those horrid stats from Butler, somehow, someway, they still were down only 7 points with less than 2 minutes to play. You're a National Champion, you limited your opponent to the worst shooting % in NCAA finals history, and yet, you had to squeak out a victory. Congratulations!)

The saddest part about all this is that the Butler/UCONN atrocity may inspire me to watch tonight's Women's Championship Game. It will be nice to see some quality basketball this week.

  1. couldn't disagree more. the quality of the basketball games is irrelevant. as long as i get to fill out a bracket and have a vested interest in each game, you could have kittens playing and i would watch. and i'm more of a dog person.

  2. No matter how bad something is, the solution should never be to go to a BCS system. At least the best 68 teams got their shot. It's not Butler's fault that "Quief Brothers" did not step up.
