Can someone please make sense of this fantasy baseball trade for me? It's beyond confusing and my brain maxes out at 6 players involved in a trade in order for me to come to a logical conclusion. There's way too much involved here.
I've removed the names of the managers making the trade for protection, but you can see that 1 guy traded away Longoria, Tulowitzki and LaRoche and got quite the haul in return--Miggy, Cliff Lee, Cruz, Roberts, Utley and Jeter.
I'm not rushing to judgment, but I'd like the blog commenters to rush to judgment on this and help me out.
Thanks.
ben got hosed. did he really need to throw in that many players to get it done?
ReplyDeleteludicrous trade, trading lee and cabrera straight up for tulo and longoria is questionable AT BEST. i even think i would take the miggy/lee side. and then to throw in cruz and utley for laroche? makes it totally one sided. i won't even mention jeter cause he sucks and is a non factor.
ReplyDeleteridiccccccc the person who traded Miggy & co. should be kicked out of your league immediately and forever.
ReplyDeleteI may or may not have just had lunch with the person who is on the receiving end of all this criticism. And it seems like he made the trade for 2 reasons:
ReplyDelete1). "I got the two players I've wanted, that's all that matters."
2). "I'm just psyched this trade is creating a lot of buzz. I don't care which side of it I'm on."
The league can decide if they want to veto a trade or not but to throw me out of the league for wanting to create a little buzz seems extreme...let me break down some of the factors here i took into consideration, and while i know you all will continue to disagree with my reasoning in the end, i'm sure i won't be losing any sleep over it.
ReplyDeleteMy Top 10 Reasons:
1) i'm a bit of a wildcard...you think my antics begin and end in the fantasy world you should spend a week with me in the real world...some of the decisions i make would drive you insane...so i have to work under pretty crazy mental conditions to start
2) i'm of the belief that when you get the best players at the shallowest positions in a fantasy keeper league you do what you have to do to make the deal.
3) The only player i see having major value on my end is Miggy, and it is really painful to trade him away but 1B is a deep position and I have some upside there (see below)...also, Miggy is an alcoholic. Do you know any alcoholics? I do...and they alway let you down.
4) Cliff Lee is a Top 5 pitcher...you see his stats? He's overrated. His current ERA is 3.78, last year it was over 3. He had 12 wins last year and less than 200K's. While we can go back and forth on this guy I'll say this, he's great, more so in the real world than in fantasy but I think his short and unexpected run of dominance is on the downside.
5) I now have the #1 ranked players at 2B (Cano), SS, and 3B in a 4 player keeper league...I've also got Eric Hosmer & there's a shot by the end of the year he could be a keeper, if not I have a # of other guys that could easily fill that 4th slot at shallow positions (VMart) or in the OF (Stubbs, Desmond Jennings)
6) My fantasy arch nemesis is Scott Paul...I traded with his younger brother and inevitably made his team better for the short term...this should upset Scott that his little brother has a better team than him...that gives me joy.
7) Knowing I make awful trades would excite me if I was another owner in this league...I'd be doing whatever I can to offer me deals...(except Cano, Longoria and Tulo are not available).
8) It's fantasy...I love the emotion and passion people have around this shit...i live for the buzz a trade can generate amongst the league owners...
9) Overall my track record is pretty damn good, I make the playoffs every year and have been in the finals a couple times recently and in other sports I've won or been in the finals so I know what I'm doing, I'm in this league for the long run and am using the "bridge year" excuse to strengthen the long term of my franchise.
10) I sold the farm, great trade for Bryan in the short run...but I like this trade for me and I'd do it all over again 3 hours later.
longoria is not the best 3rd baseman, not by a long shot. that being said, i like your passion. on a related note, i think the worst move this year was made by whoever didn't keep cano. the fact that you were able to draft him after 4 rounds of keepers is ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteyea, those are the guys i love to compete against haha
